Hello! Here is the part where I pretend this post doesn’t have a headline and say: I’ve just published CAPTIVES, the latest book in my post-apocalyptic Breakers series.

For readers of the series, you can pick it up at every major online bookstore using any of the links below. For not-readers of the series, you can find the first book for free. Once you have finished whipping yourself, anyway.

Remember, all purchases go to the Fund to Convince Ed to Resume Blogging About Publishing Numbers (And Also Some Beer). Thanks as always for your support.

What are you looking down here for? Wasn’t the cover enough to make you go buy it? Oh, fine. I will tell you about it, too:

~

In the fast-paced BREAKERS series, humanity faces not one apocalypse, but two: first a lethal pandemic, then a war against those who made the virus.

ONCE, Walt Lawson saved the world. Lately, he’s lived in peaceful anonymity with his girlfriend Carrie. This morning, she’s been kidnapped.

Walt has a single lead: the van that took her. Its trail points him up the coast to San Jose, where survivors have banded together against the gangs who’ve overrun the north. With the aid of a local guide, Walt homes in on the kidnappers, who are days from shipping Carrie far away.

But Walt’s past is about to crash down on his rescue plans. For six years, Thom James has been on the hunt, blaming Walt for the death of his brother Raymond. Now that Walt’s come up for air, Thom finally has a lead—and he won’t stop until he’s put Walt six feet underground.

  • Frances Felich says:

I love these books. I just finished Book 5 and am ready for Book 6.

  • George B. says:

Bought it, read it, excellent book, as always!

My only question is: why stop with 8 books?? what are supposed to do after book 8??

    • Ed Robertson says:

      Thank you!

As for the length of the series, I’d like to wrap up the main story in a way that’s satisfying without dragging it out too long. For people who are really into it, I do intend to write further related books. But I have loved writing this series and want to write a compelling conclusion for those who only want to read this one part of my work. :)

  • George B. says:

I am sure that anyone who has read 8 books will want more! Compelling conclusion or not, I recommend at least another 14 books in the series.

  • Scott Dyson says:

I haven’t even gotten through CUTOFF yet and here’s another for me to read! Love these stories! I think they’re very well done post-apocalyptic novels and I love the characters. That said, I have also loved your other SF, and won’t mind going to new places with your stories. (I have all three of THE WHITE TREE books but haven’t tried them yet…usually I don’t read that sort of fantasy but your name on them made me give them a try!)

    • Ed Robertson says:

Thanks so much. I like writing in other worlds, too — in fact, I’m working on a new series at this very moment and hope to have the first book available later this summer. Then I’ll get back to Breakers.

Really appreciate you picking up the fantasy trilogy. I think the first book’s a little shaky, but I’m really proud of the second and third books. Anyway, thanks again for the note.

  • George B. says:

BTW, the earlier style of the covers (on books 1-4) was a bit edgier, I think, compared to books 5 and 6. Not that it would stop me from reading books 5 and 6, of course, but just thought I’d mention it…

    • Ed Robertson says:

There are some elements I prefer about the designs on 1-4, but it’s extremely challenging to find the right models for this series — almost all the photos are way too cool/sexy/brawny for my characters. :)

I’m happy with the new direction so far, but I may revisit everything once the series is complete.

  • Karen Smith says:

I love this series! Breakers was the first book I got through BookBub and I immediately got the rest as soon as I finished it. I have to admit it took me a while to warm up to Walt & co. but now I love these flawed, believable people, even when I want to scream at them. Thanks so much and keep writing. There’s so much more to say about this world.

  • Polly says:

Love this series! Was just wondering when book #7 well hit the net? Can’t wait to see what Rain a does next…and Walt, all of them. I’m an avid reader of post apocalyptic fiction, and this is one of my favorite stores!

  • Polly says:

Oh, and love The White Tree suits as well. Didn’t even realize that was you, too…until I was searching for the release date for Breakers #7.

  • Anne says:

This is where I regret losing my magic wand* in order to compel Mr. Robertson to continue the Breakers series into infinity.

*When my daughter asked the impossible of me I would tell her I lost my magic wand.

Really though, a story that gives you something to think about, characters to root for and on some level identify with and a desire to learn how to farm, sail and accurately shoot a weapon. What more could you ask of a book?

    Thank you so much!

  • Janice says:

I found your books 3 weeks ago-love this series! I just finished all the Breaker books can’t wait to read the your other books. PLEASE keep the Breaker series going. I’m so addicted to it! Thanks for the hours & hours of entertainment!

  • Cyn says:

    Hey,
    Love the series!
Are 6 & 7 going to be available on Audible? :)
(Enjoy listening to at work…forces my coworkers to listen to the series also) 😀
    and they likey!

    Thanks!

  • Korlei says:

I love the Breakers series! I just purchased book 6 and started it today. Unfortunately, it has been some time since I read the first book and can’t remember what happened to Raymond! Is there somewhere that I can read a synopsis of the whole book? Or can you remind me what happened to him?? I would hate to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read the first book. Thanks!

  • Korlei says:

Yes! Thank you. I remember now!

  • David says:

What happened to Thom James? I just finished book 8, and it hit me that I did not recall what happened to him. Obviously he did not kill Walt!

    • Ed Robertson says:

I can’t tell, are you avoiding spoilers in this comment? If so, Thom has mentions in #8. If not… well, he had a big twist in Captives that might be worth a quick revisit!

  • Tracey Meadows says:

When will the audio version be available for book 6, 7, and 8? I have read the whole series, and am going back to listen to audio versions, love them. I drive several hours a day in traffic and listen to books while I drive (helps to keep me sane lol..)

  • George Chaplin says:

Some books I read, some I listen to on my 130 mile compute. With the breaker series it expands to also listen at work and home. Frustrate me sooo much and I still listen on …and on. Now what I would say is please tell Ray Chase to stop spending his money and get Captives done darn it. Okay Okay I will go back and re-listen to the Cycle of Arawn. And get some reading from another series. Been talking you up to other oldies, telling them this kid is all right. Hope you are spreading like wildfire, sending books to Las Vegas relatives and see if can get that market rolling too. Ray Chase PLEASE.

  • Eric Dale says:

2016 is here, so I have to ask. Any word on when 6, 7, & 8 will be release in audio format? I’m getting close to the end of Cut Off and can’t wait to start the others. Great series! Thanks!

  • Marcus R Kellogg says:

It’s March…..still no Captives audiobook on audible? Any idea on when or if it will ever be available?

  • Nima says:

Hi there same here thank you so much for book series it’s awesome.
How ever Iam a audiobook guy also and use while driving any news would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Also I know podium publishing and audible had something to work out between mid 2014 till February 2016. So hopefully some good news soon

    • Ed Robertson says:

Right, and now Podium has a six-month backlog to catch up on. I pinged them about it a few weeks ago and will ask again soon. I want the rest of the series out there as much as you do! :)

      • Edward Golding says:

Thanks for the update Ed. Glad to hear that the books are coming soon. I have all your Breakers and Rebel Stars series to date in audio format via audible.com and I’m looking forward to finishing out the series with Ray Chase as Walt. Cant wait for more Rebel Stars either.

  • Rick says:
