The savvier among you might have noticed that it’s been taking me an unusually long time to finish my current project, the next REBEL STARS book.
Well, that’s because I wasn’t writing one Rebel Stars book. I was writing two of them. And I’ve finished the series.
Oh, and if you haven’t started the series yet, I’ve also put the first three books in a box set on both ebook and audiobook. And the ebook box is temporarily just $0.99. And all of these are available everywhere.
If you’re completely unfamiliar with the series, Rebel Stars is a space opera set 1000 years in the future of the BREAKERS series, where a motley crew must come together to expose—and fight back against—a deep conspiracy that threatens to destroy the human species.
Without further ado, let’s get started on the insanely long list o’ links!
First is book #4, FREEFALL:
Next up is STARDUST, book #5 and the grand finale:
Fun thing about this book: when I start a series, I usually have no idea how it’s going to end. But one of the very last scenes in STARDUST, right before the epilogue, is something I’ve had in mind since before I wrote a single word of these books. Finally getting to write it after three and a half years of waiting felt pretty special.
Onto the box set! This includes books 0, 1, and 2 of the series: REBEL, OUTLAW, and TRAITOR. Like the others, the ebook can be found on Amazon, Amazon UK, iBooks, Kobo, Nook, and Google Play. The audiobook’s on Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.
(I was hoping to have RONIN out on audio by now, too, but I ran into a snag in production. But I’ll try to get the remaining three in audio over the course of 2018.)
In hindsight, I’m really happy I decided to write these back to back. I knew FREEFALL was going to end on a cliffhanger and I really didn’t want to make everyone wait another 12-18 months until I could clear out the time to write and publish the final novel. One of my chief goals is to always deliver the end of a series in a timely manner. I hope I’ve done so for you once again.
This has also cleared the decks for me to focus on the CYCLE OF GALAND in 2018. I have nothing else major going on, so I’ll have two new Galand books out year, likely one in the spring and one in late summer/early fall, which means the respective audiobooks will probably be out in the summer and late fall. I’ve already started plotting book #5 and will start the actual writing after I’ve had a few more days to recover from the last six months of work!
Is that it? Yes, I think that’s it for now. I very much hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
~
For reference, here’s the complete REBEL STARS series in order:
REBEL (Book 0)
OUTLAW (Book 1)
TRAITOR (Book 2)
RONIN (Book 3)
FREEFALL (Book 4)
STARDUST (Book 5)

Thankyou, very nice to hear from you…it has been a long time. I shall check these out for sure. Merry Christmas to you and your family Ed. I’ve been a fan for a very long time.
I am going to ask you a huge favour….March 15th is my 75th Birthday…..I am not asking for anything much, but a simple note from you telling me what you did on that day. This would mean the world to me. A hand written note to your olde fan.
You may not have the time, you might be busy, your pen might be broke, perhaps you don’t connect with fans…….if it’s a privacy thing, I completely understand, but hey, this olde doll is gonna try…..I’m only going to be 75 once in my life…and I CHOSE YOU.

BOOK 4 & 5 are listed at $3.99 on Amazon THRU your link
Yes, that’s correct. The box set of books 0-2 is $0.99.
I am a Goodreads librarian, and I have added book 4 and 5 to the REBEL STAR series. Let me know if there is any housecleaning that needs to be done on any of your books in Goodreads.

Oh, thanks for taking care of that.
Hey Ed, I absolutely loved Rebel Stars but I’m not pleased with the outcome for Rada…
I felt she was left in a sad and lonely place which was far less than she deserved.
Please tell me that you’re going to right another series set several centuries after Rebel Stars so we can see how humanity progresses.
I’ve definitely thought about writing a more freewheeling space opera set even further in the future of this universe. That’s one of my potential new series once I get some more work done on the Cycle of Galand.
Will the audiobook version of this be available on Kobo? I only find the ebook there now.
For the box set? I don’t think I can distribute it to Kobo, unfortunately. Just Audible, Amazon, and iTunes.
Happy New Year!
When should we be keeping our eyes out for paper editions of books 4 and 5, or are they going to be kindle>audio only?
Happy New Year! I’ll try to get those out this month, I just had a lot more work than normal to coordinate both books by my deadline.
The only bad thing about the book is that now the series is over. This has been such a wild ride following the through-lines starting in Breakers and ending here, but I appreciate every call back and every plot thread ties up.
You, sir, know how to reward readers for sticking to a series, and I’m sure I’ll gobble up your next series just like i did all 13 of these, and all 7 (so far) of the Cycle
Warm regards and happy writing.
I think it would be beneficial to have a general chat area on your website. I often want to come to your latest release info to get updates on other series. I do appreciate how often you reply to your fans and how you appreciate our ideas. I only feel out of place asking about the cycle on a post about RS. Anyway, I hope the cycle is moving along. Have a great day.
It’s fine to ask questions wherever, I don’t mind. I tend to make general status updates on Facebook.
I’m about 1/3 done with the next Cycle book with an expected release date of May or June; I’m guessing the audiobook will be out 2-3 months after that. So not too much longer!
Ed! When are we getting these audio books? Over the last two weeks I have absorbed all of breakers and the first three rebel stars. Well I have 3.5 hours left of book 2. Anyway, I need these next three books. Tim is a great narrator but after finishing breakers I think Ray has a new place among my favorites. Can’t wait for book five of Galand!
Wellll the reason the last three Rebel Stars books aren’t on audio yet is that Ray isn’t working in the industry anymore. But I think I’ve just lined up a quality narrator to finish the series, so I’m hoping we’ll get started on those shortly and get them out over the next few months.
Nooooooooo! I had assumed it was something like that. Thanks for the update!
It’s been 6 months now, any update on when these will be on audible? Just finished the latest Galand book and am anxious to hear the ending to the Rebel Series.
I had a new narrator all lined up to start recording, but he seems to have disappeared. So now I’m trying to find a replacement for the replacement.
Is there any plan to release books four and five in print? I was just going to order the hard copies while I wait for the narration but I can only find ebooks for those two.
Any word on these last three coming to audible??
Ray Chase doesn’t do narration anymore, so I’ve been trying to line up a narrator to do the remaining three, but I keep getting tripped up searching for a replacement. Do you have anyone you’d recommend to take over?
What about Tim Gerard Reynolds? I know he doesn’t sound like Ray Chase but having worked with him before, would there be a stronger chance of the series being completed?
Truly love your work!!
Any update on audiobook production? It *is* a shame Ray Chase has retired. He added a very distinct voice to the Breakers universe.
I have a lot of favorite narrators I tend to follow. Storytelling is a difficult task to pull off to really engage the audience without distractions, etc.
What I’m trying to say is that I’d hate to see you rush a choice on someone unproven. I’d rather see you take the extra step to get a GREAT narrator (like maybe waiting for their schedule to clear up). Just hopefully NOT the equivalent of a George RR Martin release! 😉
Love your work – THANK YOU!
I’ve had terrible luck lining up a replacement, but I was right about to try another round of names. If you’ve got any suggestions, I’d be happy to check them out.
(SORRY I’m late replying to this)
Have you tried Scott Brick? His narration of The Last Tribe (by Brad Manuel) was very similar in tone and cadence to Ray Chase.
Others that (IMO) could finish telling the story :
– Luke Daniels
– Ray Porter
– Nick Podehl
Please note, those are just some of the narrators I enjoy listening to. I’m clueless as to their availability, price, or predisposition.
Best of luck!
Audio is the *only* way I am able to ‘read’ nowadays, and I’m really wanting to finish this amazing story!
What about Jefferson Mays, he narrates the expanse series and does a great job, I’ve listened to both his and your space operas and it might be worth a shot. I’d just really like a chance to finish the series. I’m gonna have to re listen to the other books. That’s ok though, your writing style is great for listening multiple times.
Greetings Mr. Robertson!
Any chance that Saint Nick will be leaving a working narrator tied-up under your tree this year? I know *you* are already done with this series, I get that. I just want to finish it as well, ya know? 😉 If I could read long-form text (books), I would have already finished.
Okay…I’m done. ツ
Have a good [insert wish]!
btw: looking forward to Sealed Citadel! Just waiting for my credits to renew.
I’ll take another whack at this shortly. Hopefully I’m just running into some bad luck. I’ve only got so much work-bandwidth to provide and I always concentrate it on the latest book, but frankly I think the second half of this series is better than the first, so I really want to get the rest out on audio…
Have you considered recontacting Ray Chase to see if he would reconsider finishing what he started? Or is that kind of stuff completely out of your hands?
If I knew how, and if I thought it would do any good, I’d contact him myself.
My apologies if I’m coming across as a ‘nag’ or whatever. I realize your a busy guy with a life, and technically this story has completed for you. I get that.
Any assistance provided to get this ball rolling is MUCH appreciated!
Thanks.
Back in the day when I got hold of him, he was pretty firm about being out of the business. But I decided to check back in with him last week before doing another round of narrator-hunting–and he said yes.
I dunno when they’ll be out (we’re actually working through my publisher on them), but they’re in production now.
